Material take-off from the 3D model

Every material quantity is measured off the same posts, purlins and panels the 3D model draws, so the picture and the order cannot disagree.

What it is

A derivation that walks the modelled building and emits a categorised bill of materials — Framing, Sheathing, Trim, Doors & Windows, Fasteners, Foundation. Lumber comes from each member's cut length and nominal size; roof and wall steel are counted per drawn face; trim runs are measured off the trim panels the engine actually placed; concrete comes from post-hole volume.

How it works
  1. 1deriveTakeoff(DerivedBuilding) reads d.members and d.panels — the same objects the renderer uses
  2. 2Framing cuts are first-fit packed into yard stock lengths
  3. 3Roof faces are panelised at the roofing profile's coverage width, with waste by face shape
  4. 4Wall steel is grouped per rectangle at its own height; gable triangles get their own line
  5. 5Trim is summed per run type from the trim panels drawn (rake, eave, ridge, corner, headwall…)
  6. 6Fasteners use the SmartBuild sheathing-package formula {sf} × 1.8
  7. 7Foundation is π r² × embedment × hole count, converted to cubic yards
Why we built it

The header states the discipline: 'Quantities are measured off the SAME members and skins the renderer draws, so the picture and the order cannot silently diverge… every BOM line back-references geometry.' The file also records where each formula came from — screws from the SmartBuild sheathing package, panel coverage from the roof profile, lumber from a first-fit into 8/10/12/14/16/20 ft stock, concrete from hole volume at 18in diameter.

Cuts are first-fit packed into 8/10/12/14/16/20-foot sticks, so the list says how many pieces to buy and how much drop that leaves.

Every purchased stick listed with the cuts it yields and the drop left over.
Roof steel counted per face, with waste by face shape
Panels are counted across each drawn roof face at the roofing profile's coverage width, with 15% waste on triangles, 10% on trapezoids, and a splice at the 40-foot mill cap.
Wall steel per run, wainscot and gable infill on their own lines
Each wall rectangle is sheeted at its own height, with wainscot, gable-end infill and clerestory risers counted separately.
Trim measured off the trim the model drew
Ridge cap, rake, eave, corner, hip cap, break cap, headwall flashing and closure strip are summed from the actual trim pieces on the model.
Screws, clips, hangers, plates and ties counted off the model
Panel screws from square footage, seam clips for standing seam, and connectors counted off the same hardware the engine models.
Post-hole concrete, footing pads and uplift restraint
Cubic yards of ready-mix computed from hole diameter, embedment depth and post count, plus a footing pad and uplift restraint per hole.
Doors and windows counted in one vocabulary
Each opening size is counted as its own line, named exactly as the design menu names it, with sliding-door track and trolleys derived from the leaves.
Truss plan read off the modelled bents
The truss line names the set the roof actually needs — gable plus common, hip commons plus step-downs plus king, mansard portal bents, monitor centre plus wings.
