Post-hole concrete, footing pads and uplift restraint

Cubic yards of ready-mix computed from hole diameter, embedment depth and post count, plus a footing pad and uplift restraint per hole.

What it is

Three Foundation lines. Concrete volume = π r² × embedment × hole count ÷ 27, at an 18-inch default diameter, counting posts, jamb posts and addition columns. Footing pads counted from the footing members with the bearing note. Uplift restraint counted per hole, with the alternative construction described.

How it works
  1. 1HOLE_DIAMETER is 1.5 ft (18in); embedment comes from the building spec
  2. 2holeCount = posts + jamb posts + addition columns
  3. 3Footing pads carry the presumptive soil bearing from FOUNDATION_RULES
  4. 4The uplift line notes 'the poured backfill above is the restraint; treated blocks bolted to the embedded face are the soil-backfill alternative'
Why we built it

Concrete is ordered by the yard, on a truck, on a date — a category where being 15% out is expensive on the day. The price book carries a matching warning that this is not the same product SmartBuild prices: 'SmartBuild's FoundationBase is a precast cookie plus bagged Sackrete at ~$11 each, while our takeoff emits cubic yards of ready-mix. Same name, different thing.'

The problem
  • Concrete guessed per hole and ordered wrong
  • Uplift restraint left off the material list entirely
