The discovery call panel

A live call surface where a rep ticks what a builder actually has for each capability, and the panel ranks what to talk about next, prices the leak, and reads whether the deal is real.

What it is

One saved session per call, opened from the deal card and pre-filled with the builder's name and contact. Every capability is a box on the panel carrying the casual question to ask, four buttons for what they hear, and the tools they name. Everything on screen derives from the whole session on every render, because a sales conversation goes wherever the prospect takes it.

The panel grid of capability boxes, each with its probe question and four state buttons, with the priority rail down the right side. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1Answer any box in any order with one of four states: none, manual, siloed, connected.
  2. 2Naming a tool attaches it to the call from the provider library, with what they pay and how confident that figure is.
  3. 3Views switch between the panel, the buyer read, the web, the money paths and the brief.
  4. 4Saving is a debounced background write, not a button — the server recomputes every score on write so the roster can never disagree with the panel.
  5. 5Closing the tab mid-debounce triggers a last-chance save.
  6. 6Starting a discovery call from a deal card links the session and moves the card to the Discovery stage.
Why we built it

The panel states the constraint it is built for: 'a sales conversation goes wherever the prospect takes it, so the panel can never assume boxes get ticked in any particular order.' Auto-save exists because 'a rep on a live call will not press save, and the one thing worse than an unsaved call is a rep thinking about saving while a prospect is talking.'

The problem
  • Reps led with the module they personally liked rather than the prospect's real gap.
  • Notes taken on a call were unstructured and unusable afterwards.
  • What a prospect currently pays for tools was never captured.
Sound familiar?
What you get
Every builder gets asked about their actual process before being shown anything.
The call produces a structured record the next person can read.
What a prospect is spending today is captured with its confidence.
What's inside
The capability catalog and playbooks
Every box on the panel with the casual question that opens it, the tools a builder might name with their real strengths and dead ends, and what to say for each of the four answers.
What to say next, and what it costs them
A live ranking of the gaps worth discussing, headed by a running annual figure for the cost of leaving things as they are.
The web — the shape of their problem
A deterministic map of every capability and the links between them, lit by what the builder actually has, so three separate complaints become one visible broken path.
Money paths, drawn with the breaks in them
Each end-to-end path — lead to cash and its siblings — drawn as a line with visible breaks where the builder's process actually snaps.
The buyer read — will they actually buy
Nine things a rep judges from how the call actually went — motivation, ability, engagement — each option carrying what it means for the next move rather than just a score.
Two axes, never averaged
Opportunity and readiness are scored independently and plotted as a position on a grid, because averaging them into one lead score would destroy the only thing a rep can act on.
Two-Axis Buyer Read (agency-internal)
Scores a prospect on two independent axes — how much value is available, and how ready they are to act — and refuses to average them into one number.
