Roofing system with its minimum slope enforced

Pick the actual roofing product — ribbed steel, corrugated, lap-sealed, snap-lock or mechanical standing seam, or shingles — and the design refuses to go below that product's minimum slope.

What it is

Six roofing systems, each carrying a minimum slope, a real product profile (rib pitch, wave pitch, pan width, shingle exposure, net coverage) referenced to a named manufacturer product, and its own fastener package.

Also called: metal roofing · standing seam · corrugated · shingles · minimum roof pitch · warranty slope

How it works
  1. 1MIN_ROOF_SLOPE is a table, not a magic number: exposed-fastener ribbed 3/12, corrugated 2/12, lap-sealed 0.5/12, snap-lock 3/12, mechanical seam 0.5/12, asphalt shingle 4/12.
  2. 2Below the minimum, roof.belowMinSlope fires as an ERROR, not a warning.
  3. 3ROOF_PROFILE drives both the drawn surface and the panel count, so the picture, the order and the reference product agree — MBCI MasterRib, Western States 7/8in corrugated, MBCI PBR, McElroy Medallion-Lok, MBCI SuperLok, GAF Timberline HDZ.
  4. 4Standing seams fasten with concealed clips, so the screw formula skips the roof and a SeamClip line is added instead.
  5. 5Shingles are bought by the SQUARE and get their own usage plus an OSB deck line, because steel is bought by the panel and the same usage carrying two units priced a square as a panel.
  6. 6Exposed-fastener roofs get an inside/outside closure strip matched to every eave run.
Why we built it

Below its minimum slope, exposed-fastener metal roofing draws water back up through the screw penetrations by capillary action and voids virtually every manufacturer warranty — which surfaces as a leak and a denied claim years after the sale, long past the point anyone can fix it cheaply. Each roofing product carries its own minimum, taken from the manufacturers rather than flattened into a single number, and drawing a roof below it is a blocking error rather than a warning a builder can click past.

The problem
  • Selling a roof at a pitch that voids the panel warranty.
  • Pricing shingles as if they were steel panels.
  • Counting exposed fasteners on a concealed-clip roof.

What you get
The design cannot be sold below the chosen product's slope floor.
Panel counts come from the real product's coverage width.
Fastener packages match the system.
