A running price while you design

The builder shows a sell total that updates as the building changes, priced through the same book the estimate will use.

What it is

A resolved price book fetched for the current design's materials and applied to the live takeoff, giving a materials sell total in the builder itself. The takeoff is held steady during a pointer gesture so the number does not thrash mid-drag.

Panel summary block with footprint, roof and wall area, post and truss counts, and the materials sell total. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1fetchEstimatePriceBook(spec.materials) resolves the org book plus this design's material choices.
  2. 2takeoffSellTotal() sums priced lines and reports the unpriced ones.
  3. 3During a drag the previous takeoff is held; it recomputes when the gesture ends.
Why we built it

A price that only appears after you leave the design tool cannot influence the design. The running total sits in the builder and moves as the building does, resolved through the same price book the estimate will use — so the number a builder watches while dragging a wall out another ten feet is the number the customer is going to see.

The problem
  • Design decisions made blind to their cost.

What you get
Options can be weighed against price in the moment.
The number in the builder is the number on the estimate.
