An automatic tag on New Lead cards driven purely by how long the lead has been sitting: HOT LEAD under 5 minutes, COOLING under an hour, WARM under 6 hours, GOING COLD under 24 hours, STALE past that. STALE pulses. The tag recalculates every 30 seconds and only ever shows in the New Lead column, because once a lead is contacted the clock stops meaning anything.

A brand-new lead that nobody rings goes cold fast, but the board gave no sign of how long one had been sitting. New leads are now tagged HOT LEAD and then walk through COOLING, WARM, GOING COLD and STALE as they sit uncontacted. The last one is deliberately called STALE rather than Dead, because Dead is a grade a rep sets by hand that removes the lead from the board — two very different things that should not share a word. Aging only applies in New Lead, since once someone has been contacted the clock is measuring nothing.
