Usage and costs, without leading with a bill

One collapsed Usage & costs section per channel, offering this month and past months as modals, with the rate table hidden behind an info control.

What it is

Progressive disclosure in three layers: usage → the rate table → the conditions behind a single rate. Phone usage breaks down per line, so '9 texts, 16 minutes' becomes a table of numbers per phone number. Rates show a $10-gets-you benchmark next to each price, and tiered fees show a real range rather than one misleading number.

The Usage & costs header with its ⓘ, the two month button-cards, and the rate modal with the '$10 gets you' column. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1The section is collapsed by default; its header carries an ⓘ that opens the rate table as a modal.
  2. 2Open, it offers This month and Past months as button-cards, each a modal rather than an inline expander.
  3. 3Rates with conditions make the whole label the trigger — 'an ⓘ alone reads as decoration'.
  4. 4Per-line rows label pre-tracking usage honestly as 'Before per-line tracking' rather than blanking it.
Why we built it

Twice: the rate table moved into a modal because 'a whole pricing section on the page made the phone tab feel like a bill before anyone had sent a text', and the usage section was consolidated into one. The benchmark column exists because a per-message price in fractions of a cent means nothing without a scale.

The problem
  • Pricing dominated a setup page.
  • Per-unit prices were unintelligible at that scale.
  • Tiered fees were shown as a single number that misled.
