Full 3D assemblies rather than textures on the skin. Doors are a full-depth plug filling the rough opening from the inside framing plane to just proud of the skin cut. Windows get a four-board jamb liner plus near-opaque sky-tinted glazing set mid-wall for a real reveal. Sliding doors hang outside the wall from a track that runs on past the opening so the leaf has somewhere to go.
Also called: door assembly · insulated door cutaway · jamb liner · glazing · barn door track
- 1The overhead door's exterior face sits just proud of the wall steel and its interior face at the inside of the posts, so from the shop floor it has the same volume as the wall it fills.
- 2Uninsulated reads as a dark void between the skins; insulated fills that cavity with foam.
- 3Left and right edges are a sandwich so the core reads in side view; top and bottom are steel; the interior face has stiles and rails.
- 4Walk doors stay a 1.75in slab because they are a different product.
- 5The window's liner seals the slit between glass and skin cut on all four sides; insulated glazing is two panes with a visible spacer, which is how you read it from inside.
- 6Sliding doors are NFBA 'Sliding Door, aka Barn Door' and the takeoff bills track plus trolley hangers by leaf width.
An opening cut into a wall used to leave a gap you could see straight through to the outdoors, which makes a render look unfinished and starts a customer wondering what else is missing. Doors and windows are modelled as real assemblies — frames, rails, glazing, and the insulation inside an insulated door, so the upgrade is something a customer can see rather than a line on a quote. The layers sit slightly off the wall's inner faces, because butting them flush made the door flicker between black void and yellow foam at any distance.
- Openings drawn as flat texture with a sightline straight through the wall.
- An insulation upgrade that is invisible in the model.
