Nothing pokes through the steel

An engine-wide rule: every member end either butts another surface with zero overlap or is buried inside it — never left poking through the panels or floating in air.

What it is

A stated invariant applied everywhere: purlins stop mid-thickness of the gable skin; corner trim legs sit flush on the wall skin with the end wall leg wrapping and the sidewall leg butting; soffit ends bury mid-rake; wall skins extend past both wall ends so adjacent walls overlap and the corner closes; gable in-fill triangles sit exactly on the roof planes' centreline.

How it works
  1. 1Each wall's skin plane sits off the wall line, so a skin stopping at the corner leaves an open vertical slot — every skin run is extended so adjacent walls overlap and the corner trim wraps the joint.
  2. 2Roof skins run past the ridge so the two planes interpenetrate instead of only touching at the centreline.
  3. 3The gable triangle's base is widened only by a skin thickness per side, so the worst-case edge lift stays inside the roof box's half-thickness at any pitch.
  4. 4scripts/test-builder3d.mjs runs a pairwise same-facing near-coplanar audit plus a sloped-plane audit that samples rotated corners and edge midpoints against both roof planes.
Why we built it

A whole class of defects came from pieces that stopped exactly on a plane instead of running past it or dying behind it. Skin ending at the wall's end left a seam you could see straight through the building through; purlins run to the full roof length stuck out past the rake like scraps of wood; a gable triangle overshooting by a hair drew a thin wall-coloured line up the roof beside the rake. Every piece now either stops short of a plane or buries itself well behind one, never lands on it, and an automated check hunts the leftovers — including against sloped planes, which is where the last of them were hiding.
