Send someone straight into a tutorial

A link with ?tutorial=<id> opens the app and starts that walkthrough — even if the recipient had the Academy hidden.

What it is

A URL parameter consumed once on load after the role and account gates resolve, then stripped from the address bar. Other surfaces can start a tour without any code coupling by dispatching a window event instead.

Also called: tutorial link · ?tutorial= · share a walkthrough · link to training

2 named problems
01The parameter is read once, the tour starts, and history.replaceState removes it so a refresh doesn't re-trigger
02If the recipient had hidden the Academy widget, the deep link re-enables it — because the copy promises it will
03An unknown tutorial id is ignored with a dev warning, never an error screen
A link being clicked in an email, the app loading, and a tour starting immediately with the URL parameter already gone. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1The parameter is read once, the tour starts, and history.replaceState removes it so a refresh doesn't re-trigger
  2. 2If the recipient had hidden the Academy widget, the deep link re-enables it — because the copy promises it will
  3. 3An unknown tutorial id is ignored with a dev warning, never an error screen
  4. 4Settings and notifications start tours through the `academy:start-tutorial` event; Settings → Help & Support opens the panel through `l2b_academy_open`
Why we built it

Support answering the same question for the fourth time can send one link that opens the app and starts the exact walkthrough, instead of typing out eight steps and hoping they get followed in order. The link works even for someone who had the tutorials switched off — otherwise the one person who most needs the walkthrough is the one person the link cannot reach — and switching them back off is one click.

The problem
  • Support answers that require the reader to navigate a menu first
  • Tour links that fail silently for anyone who'd hidden the widget
