Turn guided tours on or off — per person

Each user can switch guided tours on or off for themselves; the account carries a default, and a tutorial link always brings it back.

What it is

A three-level resolution: the individual's explicit preference wins, then the organisation's default, then the shipped fallback. The toggle sits quietly at the bottom of Settings → My Profile, and the Academy panel's gear menu carries a 'Hide Academy' item behind a branded confirmation.

Also called: hide academy · turn off tutorials · disable tours · academy settings

2 named problems
01Per-user preference lives in the reserved prefs row on the progress table; org defaults live in a small admin-written settings row (read by any approved role, written by admins only)
02A failed settings read falls back to the default rather than making the Academy disappear
03A ?tutorial= link re-enables a hidden widget, and a paused tour's chip shows even when hidden
Settings → My Profile scrolled to the bottom showing the 'Guided tours (Academy)' switch with its explanatory sub-line. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1Per-user preference lives in the reserved prefs row on the progress table; org defaults live in a small admin-written settings row (read by any approved role, written by admins only)
  2. 2A failed settings read falls back to the default rather than making the Academy disappear
  3. 3A ?tutorial= link re-enables a hidden widget, and a paused tour's chip shows even when hidden
Why we built it

An owner who has run the software for a year does not want a graduation cap in the corner of every screen, and the office admin hired last Tuesday does. Making that an account-wide setting means one of them loses. Each person switches guided tours on or off for themselves, the account carries a default for new people, and a tutorial link always brings the tours back for whoever clicks it.

The problem
  • Onboarding UI that can't be dismissed by experienced users
  • All-or-nothing account-wide help settings
Sound familiar?
What you get
Per-person control, not a company-wide switch
Turning it off never strands a tour you'd already started
