Quarter, half and three-quarter, from where you are standing

Position buttons that mean what a person standing outside facing the wall means — the left quarter is the left you can see.

What it is

Alignment buttons (quarter, half, three-quarter) that place a single opening or a group with its internal spacing preserved, expressed in viewer-relative terms rather than in the wall's internal u-axis.

Also called: centre the door · quarter position · align on the wall

Panel row of quarter/half/three-quarter buttons with the resulting door position on a back wall, proving the mirror. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1viewerWallFraction() derives each wall's handedness rather than hand-tuning it per wall: the viewer's forward is the inward normal, up is +y, so the viewer's right is forward cross up; walls whose u-axis opposes that mirror the fraction.
  2. 2The placement flows through the same group clamp as drags, so wall ends and unselected neighbours stop it short of a violation.
Why we built it

The quarter and third alignment buttons sent openings to the viewer's right on some walls and their left on others, because which way is along the wall depends on which side of the building you are standing on. Handedness is derived from the geometry of the wall being looked at, so the buttons mean what the builder sees. Adding a wall or changing the frame cannot bring the inconsistency back.

The problem
  • Wall-local coordinates leaking into a control a human reads as left and right.

What you get
Alignment buttons mean what they say on all four walls.
