Every Open Card Has Its Own Link

Opening a deal changes the address bar, so you can paste that address to a teammate and they land on the same card.

What it is

The open card is part of the URL. Back and forward move between cards. A pasted link opens that card once the board finishes loading. Because the board is mounted twice — once as the sales pipeline, once as the project pipeline inside Schedule — the link is namespaced to whichever board you are on.

Address bar showing the sales-pipeline route with a card id, and the matching card modal open. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1Selecting a card writes its id into the hash route for that view
  2. 2A pasted link keeps retrying as cards arrive, rather than clearing itself
  3. 3Closing the card removes the id from the URL
  4. 4The link stores only the id, so it survives the deal moving stage or being renamed
Why we built it

A rep who wanted a second opinion on a deal could only tell a teammate to open the board and hunt for the name — there was no way to point at one card. Opening a deal now changes the address bar, so that address can be pasted to someone who lands on the same open card. The first build had a flaw worth naming: the link rewrote itself back to the plain board before the cards finished loading, so a shared link opened to an empty screen.

The problem
  • No way to point a teammate at a specific deal
  • Shared links resolving to an empty board
  • Browser back closing the whole page instead of the card
