Texts short enough to read on a lock screen

A text gets the same facts stacked one per line, with anything the title already said dropped, capped from the front so the junction's ordering decides what makes the cut.

What it is

SMS composition order: a dedicated SMS template wins outright, then a short sms_body supplied by the junction, then the title plus stacked facts, then title — body. The result is capped at 480 characters. Texts ride the org's own texting line and are silently skipped when the member has no mobile on file.

01Facts whose value already appears in the title are filtered out, then the first six survive.
02Member mobiles come from the durable platform record first, then their sign-up phone as a fallback, cached briefly so a burst does not become an API storm.
03Every SMS attempt is logged into the notifications table with its status.

How it works
  1. 1Facts whose value already appears in the title are filtered out, then the first six survive.
  2. 2Member mobiles come from the durable platform record first, then their sign-up phone as a fallback, cached briefly so a burst does not become an API storm.
  3. 3Every SMS attempt is logged into the notifications table with its status.
Why we built it

The two rules have a recorded cause: 'Without the first rule the amount and the supplier repeated themselves and pushed the due date off the end.' The short-body field exists because 'The default SMS is "title — body", which is right when the body is one line and wrong when it's the eight-line detail an email wants.' The design intent is stated: 'this is a tap-to-open nudge, not the email.'

The problem
  • Email prose truncated into an unreadable text
  • Repeated facts crowding out the useful one
