Cutting a version on every save would have buried the three to eight revisions that matter under hundreds that don't, and a rep looking for last week's price would be scrolling through keystrokes. Autosave keeps the working draft safe, while a version is only written on a deliberate act — sending, syncing, or pressing Create next version — and it snapshots the design, the takeoff, the pricing and the quantity edits as they stood at that moment.
