A colour decision is documented in the code: 'An earlier pass coloured these by outcome instead and the legend then described nothing on screen — with three bars per stage you could see that something ran late but not which crew ran it, which is the only question the chart is for. Good vs bad is already carried by the axis: left of the zero rule is early, right is late.' And the tooltip: 'The plan and the sample size are what the bar cannot say.'
- No drawn reference for 'on plan' meant variance had to be computed mentally.
- Colouring by outcome made the legend meaningless with multiple crews per stage.
- The baseline a variance was measured against was not visible.
