Import contacts from a spreadsheet or another CRM

A guided import that auto-detects columns, maps old stages and reps, flags duplicates, and reports honest counts.

What it is

A stepped modal — Upload, Mode, Columns, Stages, Reps, Review — that turns a CSV export into leads. 'New' mode imports leads unassigned and hands them to the lead-distribution engine; 'Migrate' mode preserves the old CRM's owners and stages. The final screen reports created, updated, skipped and failed, plus the distribution run.

The import modal on the Columns step: CSV headers on the left, detected field mapping on the right, progress bar across the top. ImportContactsModal.tsx. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1parseCsv reads the file and autoDetectColumnMap proposes a mapping
  2. 2Distinct values in the stage column are mapped onto real pipeline stages; system-owned stages from Estimate Complete onward can be imported INTO but are never redefined
  3. 3The Reps step is skipped entirely in 'new' mode because those leads auto-distribute
  4. 4Duplicates are flagged with the reason, which drives the default decision
Why we built it

Every builder arriving from another CRM has years of contacts in a spreadsheet, and the import is the moment that history either survives or is quietly flattened. Without a mapping step an import loses the stage history, or worse, silently redefines the pipeline the automations depend on. The import auto-detects columns, maps old stages and reps onto the real ones, flags duplicates and reports honest counts — and it cannot overwrite the locked stages.

The problem
  • Manual re-entry of an entire contact database
  • Imports that redefine or corrupt pipeline stages
  • Silent duplicate creation on re-import
