A mandatory explanation attached to an override of a customer pick. The reason, who wrote it and when are stored and rendered as a warning and modal on the customer's page, and cleared by the customer's next re-pick.
Also called: change the colour they picked · tell them why the colour changed
- 1Changing a colour the customer chose prompts for a reason.
- 2Value, reason and any new restrictions are sent in a single round trip, so the customer's page shows the note and the unavailable swatches in the same poll tick.
- 3An explicit admin change clears the 'Customer chose' stamp on that field — the admin has taken the pen.
- 4A plain admin change with no customer pick behind it clears any stale explanation instead of keeping it.
Changing something a buyer personally chose without telling them why is the fastest route to a bad phone call, and colour is the part of the building they feel ownership of. When the builder has to change a colour the customer picked, the reason is captured with it and shown to the customer on their own dashboard. The colour, the reason and any restrictions all move together, so the customer never catches a half-applied state where their colour has changed and the explanation hasn't arrived yet.
- Silent overrides of a customer's own choices
