Decline a change order with a reason

Declining goes through a branded are-you-sure dialog that requires a written reason, which is recorded on the change order for the builder.

What it is

A destructive confirmation dialog naming the change order number, warning that the builder will be notified and the change will not go ahead, with a mandatory reason field of at least three characters. Confirming closes the whole document modal and flips the card's status pill to Declined.

Also called: reject the change · say no to extras · decline reason

The destructive confirm dialog with the reason textarea and a disabled 'Yes, Decline' until text is entered. ChangeOrderSignFlow decline path. The real screen, drawn from the product’s own design system. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1The dialog is rendered light because it portals outside the route's theme wrapper
  2. 2The confirm action is disabled until a reason of sufficient length is typed
  3. 3POST /api/client-portal/change-orders/decline records the reason and the decision time
  4. 4A nested-overlay marker means one Escape press closes only the dialog, not the document behind it
Why we built it

A change order that comes back declined with no explanation just becomes a phone call, and the builder is left guessing whether it was the price, the timing or the scope. Declining asks for a reason and records it against the order. The builder answers the actual objection instead of re-pitching the whole thing blind.

The problem
  • Rejections with no recorded rationale
  • A single keypress dismissing two stacked overlays

What you get
Every decline carries a reason the builder can act on
The decision is on the record rather than in a conversation
