Backlink snapshots

Total backlinks, referring domains and the day's new and lost links are snapshotted daily — and the referring-domain count is one of the two gates that unlocks harder keywords.

What it is

A daily row per site holding backlinks, referring domains, new links and lost links from DataForSEO's backlinks summary, including subdomains. The referring-domain figure is not decoration: it is read by authoritySnapshot() and is half of the stage gate, so the link count literally decides which keywords the system is allowed to attack.

A referring-domains line over 30 days with the next stage's threshold drawn as a horizontal target line. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1backlinksSummary() is called each day for the bare domain and upserted on (site_id, day).
  2. 2authoritySnapshot() reads the latest snapshot's referring_domains as the authority number.
  3. 3currentStage() compares it against the stage table's needRefDomains thresholds.
  4. 4The weekly audit reports the change since last week and emits a 'links' proposal when the site is short of the next gate.
  5. 5A manual 'refresh backlinks' action exists in the panel for the same numbers on demand.
Why we built it

Link counts are usually a vanity metric. Here they were given a job: the stage model uses referring domains as one of the two facts that unlock harder keywords, on the grounds stated in the roadmap comment that "Authority is the slower gate… rankings alone won't unlock the next tier of terms." Snapshotting daily is what makes a weekly delta — 'referring domains +3' — possible in the audit.

The problem
  • Link growth was unmeasured, so link work could not be evaluated.
  • There was no threshold that made 'enough links' concrete.
