SmartBuild job details, parsed

A SmartBuild job is read into the things the platform needs: dimensions, roof style and slope, contact and delivery details, opening counts, attached structures, material totals and the viewer link.

What it is

Job info parsed from the SmartBuild answers and structured arrays: width, length, ceiling and eave height, roof style, slope, project and company name, contact, phone, email, delivery address, ZIP, sales tax rate, viewer link, door and window and opening counts, garage-door count, attached-structure list and areas, material count and cost and price totals, plus the raw answers for templating.

Estimate card populated from a SmartBuild job: dimensions, roof style and slope, opening counts and totals. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1Answers are flattened by id and kept raw so downstream templates can use them.
  2. 2Garage doors are detected heuristically from the description or SKU mentioning garage or overhead, or from a width of 72 inches or more.
  3. 3The width test normalises units: explicit inch or foot marks win, and for a bare number anything over 20 is inches and 20 or under is feet — a real door is never 6-16 inches and never 17-plus feet.
  4. 4Totals are summed from the material list, cost and price separately.
  5. 5Job data can also be written back: setJobDataModel creates or updates a job and walks the several shapes SmartBuild may return the id in.
Why we built it

Labour on a door depends on which kind of door it is — a garage door costs materially more to hang than a walk door — so the job data has to tell them apart before the labour number means anything. An earlier rule classified doors by whether their size looked like feet, which billed every walk door written in bare inches, a 36 or a 48, as a garage door install. Sizes are normalised to one unit before anything is classified, so the labour figure reflects the doors actually on the building.

The problem
  • Job data locked in the estimating tool.
  • Door type misclassification driving wrong install pricing.
