An adopted project carries an opening balance for money taken before it entered the system, a recorded contract value, and an attestation that a signed contract exists offline with an optional reference. It reduces the outstanding balance without pretending a document was issued.
Also called: job already underway · already took a deposit · adopt an existing job · opening balance
- 1gantt_projects gains origin ('funnel' or 'adopted'), adopted_at, adopted_by and an adoption note.
- 2opening_balance_usd reduces the outstanding balance only — no invoice row is created.
- 3contract_held_offline is an attestation with an optional reference, never treated as an in-system signature.
- 4Adopted projects are flagged so they can be excluded from funnel analytics, having no lead-to-close cycle.
The first two live builders hit the same wall: contract signed offline months ago, framing half up, crew on site — and nothing would accept a job that had already started, so the product could only be adopted by someone willing to abandon every job they currently had. A job can now be brought in mid-flight, with money already collected recorded as an opening balance rather than as a paid invoice. A paid invoice would imply a document that was never issued and would appear in revenue reporting as something a customer could open and inspect, which they could not. For the same reason no signature record is created for a contract signed on paper elsewhere: a fabricated signing date would be indistinguishable from a real one in a dispute.
- A system that only accepts jobs which started inside it.
- Money collected before adoption having nowhere to live.
- Fabricated invoices or signatures created to make an old job fit.
