Manual mute and a DND expiry both live per browser and per tenant. The bell reads 'muted until 3:45 PM'. Un-muting clears both. Desktop notifications may still appear while muted — they are shown silently.
Also called: turn off the sound · quiet hours · stop notifications for an hour · DND
- 1Both flags persist in browser storage under the tenant-scoped shim, so a per-browser, per-tenant setting.
- 2A change fires a window event so every consumer stays in sync.
- 3The poll re-derives mute state each tick, so a DND window expires and the speaker un-mutes itself without any interaction.
A single global kill switch is too blunt for someone on a call or in a meeting; a timed window returns the user to normal without them having to remember to switch it back. The self-expiry exists because 'DND windows expire silently'.
- Permanent mutes nobody remembers to lift
