Crews.kind is internal or external. External crews get a durable subcontractor portal link and sort to the bottom of the crew list; internal crews use the in-app field view. Both feed the same time, expense and P&L rows.
Also called: subs vs employees · labour source · W-2 or sub · 1099 crew
- 1The crew card's Type toggle writes crews.kind.
- 2External crews expose a 'Copy subcontractor portal link' button.
- 3Explanatory copy under the toggle states what each kind gets.
- 4The crew list sorts internal crews first so subcontractors group visibly at the bottom.
Employees and subcontractors do the same work on the same job and need completely different handling: one is on the payroll and logs hours from a field screen, the other invoices and wants no account with the company at all. Every crew is marked as one or the other. Employees log hours and expenses from the field view, while a subcontractor gets their own link to report progress, hours or units, and expenses — and that choice drives what their screen asks for.
- Subcontract labour invisible to job costing.
- One-size tracking for two very different relationships.
