Told when the browser can't place the call

If the in-app phone isn't registered, the dock says so and offers to hand the call to this computer instead of doing it silently.

What it is

An explicit notice above every tab: 'Can't call (xxx) xxx-xxxx from the browser', the actual reason, and two buttons — call from this computer, or cancel.

Also called: it opened FaceTime instead · call button does nothing · microphone permission

The amber notice card at the top of the dock with 'Call from this computer' and 'Cancel'. PhoneDock.tsx. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1dial() checks whether the softphone is ready before falling back
  2. 2The reason quotes the device error, or explains that the phone needs microphone access and a moment to register
  3. 3The tel: handoff only fires when the user chooses it
Why we built it

When the browser phone was not registered, pressing Call quietly handed the number to the computer's own dialer — so a video-call window popped up and it looked like the platform had simply failed to dial. The call then happened somewhere with no recording and no log against the customer. The dock now says the in-app phone is unavailable and offers to hand the call to this computer, so the fallback is a choice rather than a surprise.

The problem
  • Silent fallbacks that look like the product is broken
  • No explanation when the browser phone is unavailable
Sound familiar?
What you get
You always know what just happened
The fallback stays available on a machine with no mic
