Needs-your-attention action rail

A compact rail in the dashboard header showing only what genuinely needs the customer — an unpaid balance or an unsigned change order — and nothing at all when there is nothing outstanding.

What it is

Up to two buttons in the branded header. One states the number of invoices due and the total balance; the other states how many change orders need a signature. Each jumps to the real billing card lower down. When nothing is outstanding it renders nothing.

Two chips in the dark header: an accent Invoice due with a dollar figure, and an outlined Needs your signature. DashboardActionRail in src/app/client/[id]/page.tsx. Sample data — no customer information appears here.
How it works
  1. 1It fetches the customer invoice list and change order list on mount
  2. 2Invoices count only those with a positive balance that are not void or draft
  3. 3Change orders count those still sent or viewed
  4. 4Tapping smooth-scrolls to the billing row anchor
Why we built it

An invoice that needed paying and a change order that needed signing were cards partway down the page, so a customer could scroll straight past a bill that was due and the builder chased it a fortnight later. Anything needing the customer's attention is lifted to a rail at the top. When nothing is outstanding the rail is not rendered at all, so the dashboard never nags a customer whose account is clear.

The problem
  • Money actions buried below the fold on a long dashboard
  • Dashboards that nag when nothing is actually due
