Ring my cell first, then connect the customer

An outbound call option that rings the builder's own handset first and then bridges the customer, showing the business number as caller ID.

What it is

A server-side dial that uses the builder's real phone as the calling device — the customer sees the business number, and the call is still recorded against the contact. It exists alongside the browser softphone rather than replacing it.

How it works
  1. 1POST /api/comms/call with the number to call and optionally the line and contact
  2. 2The platform calls the builder's phone, then bridges the customer on answer with the business caller ID
  3. 3The call is recorded in the calls table and closes any open callback episode for that person
  4. 4No press-1 screening — "a keypress is four interactions with a glove on"
Why we built it

A builder's own handset is the best calling device they will ever own — lock-screen answer, Bluetooth through the truck, works on bad rural signal, twenty years of muscle memory — and every "cannot mute", "no sound when they hung up" and "three-second audio delay" complaint belongs to products that tried to replace it. Bridge dial rings the builder's cell first and then connects the customer, so the call quality is the handset's. The customer still sees the business number, so a callback lands somewhere the whole company can see rather than on a personal phone.

The problem
  • Poor browser audio in the field
  • Personal numbers leaking to customers
  • Return calls landing on a phone the business cannot see
